Course description

In the context of the course, the basic concepts as well as the genesis and evolution of the law of the protection of Human rights are examined.

After the introductory approach, the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is examined, which is interpreted article by article in the light of the rich jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The course aims at understanding of:

  • the organization and operation of the ECHR.
  • the legal regime governing the individual rights protected by the ECHR and its additional protocols.

Learning outcomes

Successful completion of the course provides students with:

  • understanding the basic concepts and regulations of the ECHR.
  • acquire familiarity with ECtHR jurisprudence.
  • developing individual or collective research skills in the relevant field.
